performing classical text
These workshops - for mature (50+) adults – will take place in central London, on the following afternoons, with further series in the autumn:
Thursday 20th June - 2>5pm
Thursday 27th June – 2>5pm
Thursday 6th July – 2>5pm
Location: Theatre Delicatessen, 107 Leadenhall Street, EC3A 4AF
Each class will explore monologues (and occasionally scenes) from plays by Shakespeare and his contemporaries – analysing and interrogating language, structure and verse; interpreting characters and building appropriate performance skills. The workshops are aimed at appealing to those from a broad range of backgrounds: people with experience of acting or the performing arts, as well as academics or enthusiasts of theatre and Shakespeare with an interest in furthering their understanding through live performance.
In each class, we'll examine a number of monologues as a group - interrogating and exploring how the language reveals and helps us interpret, understand and connect to the character's thoughts, feelings and motivations. These strategies will lead us into exploring live performances of the pieces, in addition to self-selected monologues from with the canon.
Sessions will be conducted in a friendly, relaxed and supportive atmosphere. Numbers are kept small, to ensure highly personalised guidance, and are filled on a first come, first served basis. As such they tend to book out quickly.
